Gave myself a day before sending it so I wouldn't use any actual cuss words in it. Still, however, rather annoyed. So this is what I sent:

I just lost a 2000+ word draft file I'd been working on last month because there is NOT A SINGLE WARNING anywhere along the whole process of "save without posting" that files in 'draft' will only be saved for one week and then tossed out like last week's garbage.

Nowhere. Not a warning anywhere. No pop-ups, nothing on the pages, nothing at ALL anywhere. No emails before it's about to be deleted. Just going back to the draft file a month later to see a note in drafts, "Please note: Unposted drafts are only saved for a week from the day they were first created." How lovely, a note AFTER the fact when the file is GONE. :(

I suggest: A warning note when saving the file without posting. A HUGE warning note. And a pop-up too. SOMETHING/ANYTHING to let people know their files will vanish!

What is the point of only having a draft around for a week anyhow? That doesn't even cover most vacations! If it has to disappear at all (and I can see not having them hang around for a lifetime), wouldn't a *year* be a better timeframe? And if it has to have an expiration, please please please PLEASE give some notice before it disappears!

All that work, gone forever. :( AO3 in beta or not, that's a pretty darn big hole to find, and I'm pretty annoyed about it. I've been a long-time supporter of the Archive, but losing work does not make me happy or very supportive.

Hey guys. I'm hoping for a hand diagnosing my little dude. I've had him for about half a year. 10 days ago, I woke up to find that he couldn't swim. He was wobbling all over the place, would sink to the bottom of the tank as soon as he stopped trying, and would fall on his side. He was very listless and struggled to get to the top of the tank for air. The first thing that I did, before anything else, was to give him a 100% water change and lower his water so that he could reach the top easier.

I took photos of him (on my phone, and it's not a super swanky funtime phone, so I don't know how to get them onto here) and took the photos into the pet shop that I got him from. The owner said that he looks fine, physically, and shows no signs of fungus or external bacteria. She said the symptoms I explained sounded like swim bladder disease, and suggested fasting him for two days, and then feeding him a boiled pea. I went home and looked that method up online to see if it was widely-known. And then I did.

Aside from him being cranky at me for not giving him any food for two days, he showed no change, so I went back to the pet store. She then suggested that swim bladder disease can sometimes be bacterial, and gave me Melafix to treat him. It's now the seventh day (the bottle says to stop treatment after seven days), and he's only shown partial improvement. His mood has improved and he has all of his old energy back. He can swim to the top with ease (so I've put the water level back up). However, he's still having to exert himself more than usual, and he still sinks to the bottom - he's just not falling on his side when he does.

What could be wrong with my guy? Have I somehow damaged his swim bladder permanently?

Tank info:
1.5 gallon round bowl, no filter
Heavily planted (I don't know the names of the plants, though) with one castle, gravel and a thermometer inside
Heating mat on the bottom, the temperature stays around 68-72 at all times (it's winter, it ain't going any higher)
pH, ammonia, nitrate etc is all within a healthy range
I feed him one "Penn-Plax Pro Balance Betta Food" pellet twice a day - occasionally he'll get two at one of the feedings if he seems particularly hungry
I do I 1/3 water change with a gravel siphon weekly, a 100% water change every month and a half to two months.

Setting and Characters: This is set in the early 1960s US. I have some very smart and resourceful characters with backgrounds in science and a little medical training. It would also be possible to bring a surgeon in if necessary. They have access to basic medical equipment and a sterile location, but not a full surgery or blood transfusions. He was shot with a handgun (I don't go in to what type since my characters don't know themselves) from roughly 20 feet away.

Criteria: There needs to be enough blood loss to show symptoms within a few minutes (pale, clammy, shallow breathing, racing pulse, maybe passing out), but not enough to be fatal. I need him on his feet within a few days to a couple weeks, but not fully functional (as in very sore and stiff, can't move it, needs long-term rehab to get full - or almost full - use of his arm back). Risk of making it worse by straining it is high.

I've been doing quite a bit of research on this and other fiction-reference sites, searching for things like "gunshot shoulder recovery and treatment", but haven't quite found anything that comes close enough to my criteria. From what I've read, I'm thinking I'll have to scrap my original idea of blowing straight through the bone for added drama and gore. It doesn't seem like something that could be stabilized with limited medical resources (though if I'm wrong, I'd still prefer to go that route!). I'm leaning toward the outer, "meatier" part of the shoulder. But would this be "bad" enough?
